  1. I feel that if many of the things that happened in those days never occured then alot of things would be dramatically different today. If the Roman empire hadn't fallen then Rome could have been one of the most pwerful empires ever and could have a lot of power, even today. Also Rome would have a greater and richer population and civilization if the black plaque and many other disasters hadn't taken place. Rome would be even more beautiful and well known if the beautiful architecture of it such as the colliseum and their aqueducts hadn't been worn, broken, and some even destroyed. If it hadn't been for the emperor Justinian we wouldn't have the beautiful church Hagia Sophia and all the other marvelous churches modeled after it. Last, I believe that Christianity could have not been accepted if it hadn't been for Constantinople and many other emperors who accepted it and encouraged their people to follow it as well.

  2. The world today would not be the same it is today without the fall of the Roman Empire in 420 A.D. With the fall of the Roman Empire the Dark Ages began. One main movement during the Dark Ages was Christianity. Jesus Christ was seen as a emperor of these Barbarians. A huge stepping stone in the religion Christianity was when the emperor of the Franks converted to Christianity. Now him and his whole nation were Christians. Without the fall of then Roman Empire, Christianity wpuld not be the widespread religion it is today.

  3. The Roman empire was known as the center of the world. This was because of its size, army, and advanced technology. The documentary described the fall of rome, and the "dark age" that overtook the empire. The three main causes of the fall of the empire were, foreign diseases(bubonic plague), internal crumbling of military, politics/excessive reliance of foreign powers, and invasions. The dark ages was the time after the destruction of rome in which the world itself "shrank". Inventions such as aqueducts were left behind. Life was hard and gloomy. This was important to history because the mistakes the empire made were corrected in the future. This was one of the biggest rise and fall of an empire presented in history.

    1. I agree with that the roman empire was the center of the world. I also agree with the reasons of why the Roman empire fell. I would also like to include that even though their inventions like aqueducts were left behind there was little bit left because they had fallen apart. Just enough was left behind of their architecture and inventions for us to see how advanced of a civilization they were.

    2. I also would concur that Rome WAS indeed the "center" of the world during its time (the real center of the world is molten lava, but hey what did they know then). I do believe that if the Emporers hadnt been as power hungry and focused on the people then there would be no issue with Rome and they could still be top dog in our current day.

    3. The Roman empire had a huge influence, not only on the civilizations of their time but also they influenced people throughout history, which was a main reason why Rome was the "center of the world". The bubonic plague, and other diseases, had a huge impact on Europe and Asia, thousands of Romans died from diseases which was a main cause of Rome's downfall.

    4. I do not agree that rome was the center of the world. It was the center of Europe, however, there were also many things happening in East Asia as well as Persia during that time period with the Persian Empire, Huns, Gupta Empire, and Jin Empire. What up Jorge

    5. I agree with you completely Jorge. All these reasons led to the fall o0f Rome. Besides the Incas, Rome was the only civilization that truely relied on the aquaducts and this idea was left behind after Rome's collapse. Many architectural ideas were left behind by Rome, a civilization know greatly for its architecture.

    6. The Roman Empire was, without a doubt, one of the most powerful empires in history. Given the nature in which it fell, it is true that the engineering capabilities of Europe were reduced greatly. This, alongside the lack of any central authority, changed the way people lived. With plagues and warfare, the population fell and led to the term “dark ages” being used to describe the time period.

    7. I agree with the statement that Rome was the center of the world becuase it had all the latest technology. i also agree with the reasons that lead to the fall of Rome. Jorge's used the documnetary and the book to have a well-rounded answer.

    8. The Bubonic plague, also known as "the Black Death" was named because of the black spots that formed on the skin of infected people. The sickness began in Central Asia, first appearing in 1347. The plague first emerged from Italian merchant ships when they returned for trading, from a trade route between Europe and China. The merchant ships were filled with rats, who helped transmit the disease. The fleas would cause much worse by carrying the blood of infected rats to the people on the ships. By the time they reached port, many sailors were dying because of this. Within days of their arrival, the plague would spread from the port cities to the surrounding countryside.

  4. Without the fall of the Roman Empire in 420 A.D., history would not be the same to this day. The Roman Empire was very important and had great effects on the rest of the world. For example, when the people started to convert to Christianity, Jesus Christ was greatly worshiped by the people of the Roman Empire. They had great effects on the military and the rest of the civilization. The fall contributed to history too. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the ideas of the empire were accepted and used by other civilizations. This affected the history of the world by a great amount.

    1. If the Roman Empire had not have fallen in 420 A.D., the world would not be the same. During the Dark Ages, the land that was once controlled by the Romans, was broken up under different rulers. If this land was not broken up, it might have been still controlled by one ruler today. People started to accept Christianity, looking for hope, and spread its ideas. Christianity might have died out and still not exist today without the spread of its ideas in the Dark Ages. Other civilizations adopted ideas from the Roman Empire after it's fall and these ideas still contribute to modern civilizations.

    3. I agree the Roman Empire was one of the most powerful and advanced empires ever. Without its fall who knows where we would be today. Rome could still have reign and we'd all be living life under a single ruler. I believe Christianity would not be the widespread religion it is today without the Roman's fall. The Dark Ages, a big time in history, would have never existed without the Empire being destroyed. With the fall of the empire, new rising powers learned from the Roman's mistakes making sure their new nation did not end up the same way they did. Without this, the world today may not be the way it is.

    4. I concur. The Roman pull twords Christianity was the framework holding the middle ages together. However, it did not just create peace and joy. This was one of the biggest historical accounts of religious violence. Many rulers believe the only way to convert people to a religion such as christianity, is to cap all of the competition. This was shown by the leader of the French Franks, as he eliminated family, to solidify his new beliefs.

    5. I agree. The Roman Empire rapidly spread its beliefs, Christianity, and ideas before it fell. If the Roman Empire did not fall, the Rennaisance would have likely not happened and many of the innovations that we rely on today would not exist.

  5. The Empire of Rome was experiencing difficulties such as corruption and apathy in society. The empire was destined to fall as well as all other empires did. If the Roman Empire had not fallen, society may be very different today. The most dramatic impact the dark ages had on european societies was the spread of christianity. If Christianity had not taken over, there would probably still be many pagans today. The spread of Christianity was beneficial in reuniting a crippled region, however; it resulted in many acts of prejudice and religious persecution. Had christianity not have been as powerful, we might not have had the beautiful churches and other beautiful structures of the modern world. The falling of the empire also made people realize the importance of education. With only the priests and monks of the Church being literate, the townspeople lived in a barbaric state of ignorance.

  6. Christianity assumes ever greater importance as the nobility converts, founding large numbers of monasteries. The network of churches and monasteries built in the Merovingian period provides Charlemagne with an administrative infrastructure that will allow him to create his great empire in the ninth century.
Charlemagne's descendants, known as the Carolingians, will rule the region until almost the end of the period. Metalwork remains an important art form throughout the period. Highly accomplished examples of ivory carving and manuscript painting emerge under Carolingian rule. Though relatively few survive, many stone buildings—particularly in the form of churches, monasteries, and palaces—are built.

  7. The empire of Rome fell. Some tried to recreate it, like the Byzantine empire, but they all failed. After the empire fell, dark ages came upon the land. People became illiterate, and the only ones who could read were monks or members of the church. Also, Society almost progressed backwards. People became very superstitious of supernatural things and such.

  8. Following the fall of the Roman Empire, Europe changed dramatically. War was almost constant, and the engineering capabilities of society were greatly reduced. In this time, Christianity spread to many different peoples. People needed a common trait to maintain some degree of communication; and they might have wanted to hold onto something from Roman times. However, the Byzantine Empire stayed strong for a time in the east. Justinian recaptured much of the land lost after the fall of Rome. Had the bubonic plague not struck when it did, it seems likely that a second Roman Empire would have emerged, perhaps enduring for several more centuries.
